ST. PATRICK’S SENIOR NATIONAL SCHOOL, SKERRIES

St Patricks National Senior School in Skerries badly needed new classrooms.

The ageing temporary classroom block and toilets had reached their end of life and replacement permanent accommodation was urgently required.

Sweeney Architects designed an extension with four brand new classrooms with ensuite toilets and refurbished an existing classroom to provide it with ensuite toilet facilities.

The new extension was placed in such a way that the existing playground area was maintained. A new entrance onto the playground was provided and in addition three new SET support rooms and assisted toilet/shower facilities were built.

During construction it was discovered that the existing boiler dating back to the 1970s or earlier was no longer fit for purpose. A new energy efficient boiler was installed to serve both the existing school and its extension.

The project was completed in time for the school’s new year in September 2022.

“Sweeney Architects designed and managed the construction of four new classrooms and three learning support rooms to our existing building. Students, teachers and parents are delighted with the outcome of our new classrooms and learning support rooms. As principal of the school, overseeing a project of this size and nature is difficult. Nick and Tim from Sweeney Architects were great throughout the project. I was able to call at any stage for advice and help. All of us here in St. Patrick’s SNS, Skerries, are delighted with our new extension and thankful to Nick, Tim and the team at Sweeney for how supportive they’ve been.”
